Walleye
The walleye rules on the Missouri River. Prized for their taste and abundance, walleye are fished with jigs and minnows in the spring, crawlers and leeches in the summer and through the ice in the winter. Captivated by the walleye, anglers come to Pierre come across the region, state and country. The site of numerous tournaments, including the Cabela's National Team Championship, the South Dakota Governor's Cup and the Wal-Mart FLW Walleye Tour Championship, Pierre has become a familiar stopping point on the professional walleye tournament. But day in and day out, it's the amateurs who reign. They come from behind office desks and out of operating rooms, sales offices and retial stores. They come for a day, they come for a week, but they all come for walleye.

Jason Mitchell, host of Jason Mitchell Outdoors recently filmed an episode for his television show on Lake Oahe this past week.  Mitchell fished with Lake Oahe guide, Cory Jueneman and caught several nice walleye using bottom bouncers in depths of eight to twelve feet of water.  According to Mitchell, "most of the walleyes were caught in less than ten feet of water and were very aggressive.  Lake Oahe really is a fantastic fishery right now.  One of the best!"  The segment will air this upcoming fall and winter of 2011.  Jason Mitchell Outdoors airs on FSN North along with several regional broadcast stations covering North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansan, Missouri and Nebraska, reaching over nine million households.  During 2010, Jason Mitchell Outdoors boasted one of the highest ratings for outdoor programming on FSN North.
